It’s a bit of a running joke with my friends that they should bring their own ice when they come over to the house. We don’t have an automatic ice maker in the freezer, and I rarely use ice at all, so we’re often down to the last few cubes right as company is about to arrive.

I’ve gotten better, though. Or so I thought. Here’s what a friend recently found in the full ice tray the other day:

Yeah, I don’t know why I at some point had a Hershey’s Kiss tag with the word “Oops” printed on it. I don’t remember them making April Fools Day themed candies, but maybe. Anyway, I fortunately have friends who love me and have a good sense of humor. And, well, know that I have plenty of good attributes that make up for my lack of ice-making skills. πŸ˜€

Would’ve been even better if I had planned that “oops” note in there. But no. I am just that blind to details and such. Ah well…

Remember awhile back when my friend’s mom needed your help to get a skatepark and several of you commented (and I loved you for it) and you tried to help her out by doing so? Remember that?

Well, she didn’t get it….

BUT…she’s up for it again.

So, if you don’t mind, and you still love me and all, could you head on over here and comment to vote her up again? I’d really appreciate it. So would she. And the kids. Do it for the kids. πŸ˜‰

Thanks. πŸ˜€

My one Spanish teacher friend showed me this video and I was dying laughing. It’s fantastic. I’ll post it here in honor of my other Spanish teacher friend, who also teaches music and ESL. He and his lovely wife, btw, have a blog of their own that I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned here before. Fishers of La Paz. They’ve just moved their life and family to Bolivia! Check them out and enjoy their journey. πŸ™‚

In honor of you, Tomas! And I’ll work on Bald Man to get that other video up and going, soon!

And a week it was…

So, see there? My birthday did last a whole week AND a day! Got to hang out with a few friends last night, just chatting, playing a few games, and laughing a ton. That doesn’t happen nearly often enough! Thanks, friends. πŸ™‚

Lots and tons of stuff has happened. The whole filming thing was this past weekend. I’ll write that up soon, and try not to bore you with it too much. But it was fantastic.

School and dance and all are starting up again, reminding me that summer is gone. Ah well, I love the fall better, anyway. πŸ™‚ We now switch from half-day to full day homeschooling. If I’m not out here for a while, you’ll know I’m just trying to figure that all out.

And Happy Name Day to Jonic! Can’t wait to chat with you during your inevitable impending sugar buzz. πŸ™‚

That’s my grandma and me. I love my grandma. She rocks. And we happen to have close birthdays, so we get to celebrate together occasionally. Here’s us blowing out our candles (should have been a combined total of 118. as it was, I think there were 19. probably better not to burn the house down):

And here’s grandma playing the Wii that my mom picked up today. My mom was totally born in the wrong generation. A few more later and she absolutely would have been a gamer.

That blur is the closest that you’re going to get to an action shot until I can figure out how to download the video. πŸ˜›

So, my birthday week continues. It started with dinner at my in-laws Saturday (with a lemon pound cake and lemon curd homemade just for me, yum!), continued with celebrations with house church on Sunday, my dinner out with Bald Man on Monday (the actual day), and cake and dinner and the Wiiiiiiii with Grandma and the fam tonight. There’s still a few more friends yet to celebrate with, and I think that’ll be next week. Fantastic.

I’d have to thank Chris for the weeklong birthday suggestion with a link and that to his blog, but seeing as how it’s not up yet, that’ll have to wait. I think it was an excellent idea, though, and his housemate will just have to blame him if I continue to be an obnoxious birthday diva for another few days. πŸ˜‰

It’s my birthday…

…and I’d thought of writing something nice and reflective and mature and all.

I don’t have time.

So just send me lots of hugs and kisses and that. I’m needy. And it’s my birthday. You got that part, right? πŸ˜‰

Shattered Illusion

Just so that I wouldn’t live in the illusion that summer would last forever, the UPS man brought around the boxes that would remind me that, yes, school will be starting up again soon. And, being that I’m a homeschooling parent, that doesn’t bring about thoughts of getting kids up in the morning, off onto the bus, and having free hours in my day with which to get things done. Nope. Not here.

Summer was fun here. Sitting outside reading a book while the kids tied each other to the tree with jumpropes. Hanging out inside messing about on Skype and that while the kids tied each other to the chairs with jumpropes. Taking walks around the neighborhood while the kids pulled each other along with jumpropes. πŸ˜‰

No, all the summer fun is dwindling to a concrete end. We never did get a big trip in this summer (I don’t count the whirlwind Chicago/Cleveland weekend that not even the whole family experienced and that I didn’t even blog about!). We’ll be headed to Jack’s ’round about Labor Day and that will be our summer trip. Then, it’s back to the daily grind of schooling, and figuring out how to keep the boys entertained while we do.

The cool part is that the illusion shattering boxes did contain some pretty cool stuff. Now that Samantha is officially a first grader, her curriculum includes art, science and music. The boxes included instruments (tambourine, slide whistle), art supplies (paints, paintbrushes, oil pastels), and science equipment (feathers, safety goggles, beans, graduated cylinder, scale, compass, etc.). All the cool new stuff is getting a certain young lady that was sooooo ready to be done with schooling just a couple of short months ago very excited for the coming school year.

As for me, I’m still working myself into the excitement stage. I’ve a few more books to finish before I’m ready to call it a season!

I just ran out to the garden to pick some tomatoes and jalapeΓ±os for dinner tonight and..DANG…it’s hot. 98F (36.6C according to Google). And someone else said the heat index was at about 115F. Craziness. But it felt like it. LIKE A SAUNA. And Thursday’s supposed to be worse.

Anyway, enough of the weather report. But I did keep hearing Robyn Williams’ bit from Good Morning Vietnam while I was writing that. Remember it?

Look how pretty, though. I think the little yellow tomatoes are especially fun.

Lots been going on. And photos to go with. Will try to be out here more often. You all can quit bugging me to get back out here. Unless I disappear again. Then feel free to bug away…
