Hey all,

This is me announcing the launch of my photo blog.  I hope you’ll join me for more fun and possibly games there (might have to restart the game that Rantz broke over here 😉 ).

Have a great week. 🙂

I am.  Really.  Because remember how I said I wasn’t gonna count calories and was just making small changes to get healthy?  Yeah,  right here’s where I said that.  You giggled, too, didn’t you?  Because you know what happens when I try to get healthy (okay, really, I mean lose weight) and don’t count calories?  I eat brownies.  And ice cream.  And pizza.  And bananas with Nutella.  That’s what happens.

So, as of tomorrow, I’m counting calories yet again.  Calorie King is what I’m back to.  It’s really the only thing that’s worked for me.  Eat less, eat healthier, exercise.  Count calories in, count calories out.  Go, go, go.

I’m also following Paul and Ellen as they get healthy this year.  They’ve had successes already.  Woohoo!  Always exciting to hear. 🙂

So, I’m eating a chicken leg and my four year old starts looking at me curiously.

Me: “What?”

Luke: “Is that a chicken finger?”

Me: “No.”

Luke: “Is that a, um…………….one of those things that you get at the pizza place?”

Me: “A chicken wing?”

Luke: “Yes. ”

Me: “No.”

(Now I’m the one with the confused look on my face.)

Luke: “Is it kinda like a chicken wing?”

Me: “ummmmm….kinda…..”

It’s a sad day when you realize the only parts of the chicken that your child can identify are the wing, finger, and nugget.

Hey.  Lookey here, still posting and everything!

So, in the midst of trying to set new goals and a few accomplishable (yeah, not a word, I know) projects, I totally pulled a “Kerri,” which is this:

I decided to a Project 365.  Familiar?  Take a photo every day for a year.  Okay, so, I started one of these before.  A couple of years ago.  I’m not even sure if I made it a week.

If you don’t know me, then you have to know this: I love taking photos.  Love it, love it, love it.  So, you would think this would not be a big burden, right?  Except that there’s me.  Me=Kerri.  And the thing about Kerri is (and, wow, it sucks more to admit this than I could have imagined) that I’m not so much on finishing things.  Yeah, I quit.  I can’t say that I know why, other than laziness?  That could be it.  But, really, I quite often do not finish the things that I start.

However, as I mentioned, I do love taking photos.  So, if I’m really going to try to accomplish a goal, I should at least attempt to do it in something I already love, yes?  Yes.

So, Project 365.  This year.  That was one of my goals.  January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010.   I just started reviewing my photos.  Guess what?  I forgot to take a photo on January 1st.

Yeah, so me.

Anyway, that project will go from January 2, 2010 through January 1, 2011.  I’ll be posting all the pics online on a photoblog that I’ll announce soon.  I won’t be posting daily, but all of the photos will go up there. 🙂

While I’m at it, here are some of my photographic goals for the year:

1: Complete the year of photos

2: Learn something new about photography in general every week

3: Learn something new about my camera every week

4: Take some kind of lighting class/seminar

5: Participate in a few photo contests.  Hmmm….that’s not specific, is it?

5a: Submit photos to at least 5 on-line photo contests this year

5b: Submit photos to at least 3 local photo contests this year

6: Participate in/lead at least 3 local photowalks this year

7: Get my business planned, organized, and going

There you go.  That’s me, with plans.  Let me know if you’re doing a Project 365 or posting photos.  I love to see what others are doing!

Keeping it simple.  That’s the plan for getting healthy this year.

I’ve done the calorie counting before.  And it works….for a while.  But I know that I won’t spend the rest of my life counting calories, I just know it.  Because I don’t want to.

I do, however, want to change my body and my health.  So, I’ve started eating less.  I don’t really need to measure food to know whether or not I’m eating less.  I spent enough time measuring and weighing and recording to know when I’m doing well and when I’m not.  So, yes, I’m eating less.

I’m choosing healthier foods when I do eat.  More vegetables, more fruit, more whole grains, less crap.

An intentional physical activity everyday.  Sometimes squats, sometimes shoveling snow, sometimes walking the dog, you get the picture….

So, there, that’s where I’m starting.

The kids and I made up a menu for the next few weeks including breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I made a grocery list for the week including just the items we need to provide for the menu.  And THEN……I asked Cory to do the actual shopping. 😛  It’s a win for me, because I don’t end up picking up all the yummy looking snacks that call to me as I’m waltzing the aisles.  It’s a win for Cory, because we stay on the budget. 😛  And it’s nice to be able to ask the kids, “What’s for dinner tonight?” instead of them always asking me. 😀

I’ve also starting chewing a lot more gum and drinking more water.  When I want to snack, I grab a piece of gum instead (usually).  When I want a small snack right before I head up for bed, I drink a glass of water (and then run up to bed before I hear the cries of the neglected fudge).

That’s where I’m starting.  If I start slacking off, though, I may have to return to calorie counting.  That should be motivation enough take this seriously!

So, I received an e-mail today from a local florist, Oberer’s Flowers.  I’m on their mailing list and often receive notices for their current specials.  Today’s, however, grabbed my attention.  They were announcing the return of Super Tuesdays and free bouquets.  Definitely interesting.  I forwarded the e-mail to my mom and then, well, kinda forgot about it.  Mom brain and that….

So, mom’s leaving work and calls to mention the e-mail and that she’s gonna check it out.  I decide to run up there, too.  I’m thinking that it’ll be a few roses wrapped in paper, which is definitely still worth the jaunt up there.  I love Oberer’s arrangements.  They did all the flowers for my dad’s funeral, and they were each so beautiful.  Members of our family have used them frequently and are so pleased with their service and products.

So, I head up there and take a look at what’s available and this is what I come home with…..

C’mon now, that’s a beautiful arrangement!  For free!

Okay, so you want to know the catch, right?  Well, you fill out your name and address, wear a little “Hello, My name is…” type tag that mentions Oberer’s (I was going home, so it didn’t really help them any), and promise to tell 10 people about it.  That’s free enough for me. 🙂

So, if you live in the Dayton area, look forward to Super Tuesdays and free flowers!  The said they’d be doing this promotion for a little while.  Be sure to check them out!

Thanks for the flowers, Oberer’s!

Hi all.  Happy New Year.

Sorry, anyone still out there?

Getting ready to start writing a bit more out here.  Okay, so, a lot more.  I’m hoping there may still be one or two of you still out here to read.  If not, that’s okay, too.  I’ll just keep writing.

I was shocked to see that my last post was in August!  Shameful.  However, since then, I’ve felt little to no creativity.  Sadly, in all areas.  Funny how a job in your general area of passion, in addition to general stresses, can do that.  No more excuses, though.  I’m ready to find the joy and hope in creativity again.  And I’m looking for ways to share that with the kids.

Going to start a couple of projects.  Will share those out here soon.  Also decided to go with a new theme.  We’ll try this one out for awhile, see how it goes.

Excited about a new year.  I know, I know, it’s just another date on the calendar.  Still, it’s funny how these arbitrary dates can motivate, encourage and challenge.  I’ll take anything I can get right now.

Hoping for an amazing year for each of you. 🙂
